What should a small business website cost in Australia?

1 October 2026 · 6 min read

Website quotes for a small business can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands. That range isn't random — it reflects very different products. Understanding what drives the price is more useful than any single "average" figure.

What actually drives the cost

  • Number and type of pages. Five standard pages is a very different job from twelve pages with landing pages and an insights section.
  • How much thinking goes in. A site planned around your customers and your sales process takes more time than a template filled with text.
  • Content. Who writes the copy, and how much of it, is often the biggest hidden variable.
  • Functionality. Contact forms are simple. Online booking, e-commerce, memberships and integrations with other software are separate projects.
  • Revisions and approvals. A defined number of consolidated revision rounds keeps a project on time and on budget.

The ongoing costs people forget

Domain registration, hosting, premium plugins or platform subscriptions, email accounts and stock photography are usually paid separately. Ask any provider to list these clearly so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

How to compare quotes

  • Ask for the scope in writing: pages, inclusions, exclusions and revision rounds.
  • Ask who owns the site and content at the end, and how you would move it if needed.
  • Ask what happens after launch: who makes changes, and at what cost.

A practical way to decide

Start with what the website needs to achieve — more enquiries, more credibility with larger clients, less time answering the same questions. Then choose the smallest project that achieves it, with room to grow later.

Argo publishes its website prices on the pricing page so you can see where a project is likely to land before you get in touch.
